Definition of Cookies and Purposes of Use

Cookies are files containing small amounts of information which are downloaded to any internet enabled device – such as your computer, smartphone or tablet – when you visit a website. Their purpose is to capture important information related to users’ internet activity, such as the name of the websites visited by the user, as well as the devices used therefore. Cookies also enable websites store their visitors’ preferences (e.g. Log-in information, language, size of letters, preferred icons etc.), in order to offer them an improved online experience next time they visit a website.

Third-party cookies enable access to a user’s visiting activity across all websites, so as to provide analytics information. Third-party cookies do not collect information that may personally identify you. Our website uses third party cookies solely for the purpose of analyzing the number of its hits and improving its performance.

Each browser (e.g. Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Apple Safari etc.) may place its own cookies. The duration of cookies depends on type of browser used, its settings and browsing features (e.g. normal or incognito mode). However, online human behavior does not follow any pattern, since users may use various devices to access the web, browsers may be set so as to reject cookies and the user may delete cookies at the end of each browsing activity. According to the provisions of article 5.4. of Law 3471/2006, as currently amended and in force, the use of cookies is allowed only following the user’s informed consent. Thus, users must “opt-in” to the use of cookies, whereas “opt-out” consent, namely the use of cookies without the user’s prior consent, provided the latter had been informed and had not opposed thereto, is no longer valid.

Except from cookies absolutely necessary for the Website’s functionality, which are allowed to be stored on the user’s devices, we need the user’s consent to place all other types of cookies. Each user/visitor/subscriber may change or revoke his/her consent to the use of cookies and change his/her cookie settings through the Cookie Notice available on our website.
